[5 Nov 2007] Our Internet Service Provider is undergoing maintenance in the dead of the night.
Maintenance will begin at 1:00 AM PST and end by 5:00 AM PST on Tuesday morning. While you will experience a service disruption during this time, it is unlikely that your service outage will extend through the entire time
frame. Service interruptions during a maintenance event like this often last only a few minutes.

[1 Jan 2007] This forum will be unavailable on the morning of 2 January 2007 whilst the crack team of tikis upgrades the forum. The purpose of the upgrade is to streamline the web site's overall configuration and a code upgrade to the forum, which hopefully will allow us to better combat the spammers and those posting without being a registered user.
The impact is that the forum will be unavailable between 0600 PST and 1200 PST on 2 Jan 2007. This can include all aspects of the forum, including reading and writing posts, but may not necessaily be true through the entire outage window.

[14 Dec 2006] The local region that hosts the Tikiopolis chat and other servers is being battered, yes, battered, by severe windstorms. We are getting puffs of winds that rival that of a low-grade hurricane. And unlike areas plagued by hurricanes, there are nice big old trees here that knock down power lines. Without electricity, there is no operating chat server.
-
[25 Nov 2006] Nostrodomos noticed no one was connected to the chat server, so the TikiGawd exploited such an opportune moment to do the work that Nostrodomos needed to do. The server is up and running again! w00t!
-
[24 Nov 2006] On 25-Nov-2006 at 0700 PST (-0800 UTC/GMT/Zulu), Tikiopolis will experience a services outage. This is caused by a multi-phase project to upgrade all Tikiopolis hardware for a better Tikiopolis experience. The outage shouldn't be more than 30 minutes.
-
[28 Jul 2006] Our Internet Service Provider (ISP) has warned us of some upcoming maintenance that could affect your connections to the Tikiopolis Chat Server.
Read this!
On Wednesday night/Thursday morning, August 2nd and August 3rd 2006, we will be performing scheduled maintenance on the Point of Presence (POP) through which your Broadband connection is routed.
Maintenance will begin at 11:59 PM PDT on Wednesday night and end by 03:00 AM PDT on Thursday morning. While you will experience a service disruption during this time, it is unlikely that your service outage will extend through the entire time frame. Service interruptions during a routine maintenance event like this often last only a few minutes.

[6 Jun 2006] Our animal loving friends in #AnimalChatters announce Bird Chat day. Join us for Bird Chat, Wednesday night, June 7th starting 8-9 PM PST/11-12 EST. Grab your birdseed and fly over to a great discussion about man's winged pets!!! (Their words, not the TikiGawd's).

[6 Jun 2006] Games! Tikiopolis now has multiple games on the chat server: (1) Trivia in #Newcomer2Trivia, (2) Magic 8Ball and Guess in #Guess, and (3) HangTiki in #HangTiki. Click for More information about these fine games, their rules, features, and instructions how to play. And like the TriviaBot, there is monthly and all time scoring, so go and compete against your friends, and rub their nose into it when they have an inferior score.
The Mighty TikiGawd has taken on a mighty large project, and is currently writing a BlackJack bot for fun and games as well. Nostrodomos complains that this could be a quarter project for any computer programming class, due to its complexity, so please be patient. It's coming along and should show up soon. Stay tuned for more News Flashes!

[15 Oct 2005] One of the predictions Nostrodomos has been making since 1999 has come true! The prediction was:
I predict all the gas guzzling SUV's will sit in garages when gas prices (in the USA) hit 3 bucks a gallon. SUV's suck....gas!! HA HA!
Behold the power of the mighty Nostrodomos!!!

[13 Oct 2005] We are having a party for Halloween. If you didn't notice the advert above, have your eyes checked.

[18 Sep 2005] Nostrodomos must perform some maintenance on the chat server during the morning of Sunday, 25-Sep-2005. When, in the morning, you wonder? Nostrodomos won't know until Nostrodomos wakes up. And depending how much liquor Nostrodomos drowns in the night before, determines what time Nostrodomos actually wakes up. Luckily our sleepy little server sees no one at that hour.
Nostrodomos will announce a more specific time if anyone requests it.
Now for the bad news: Some people may experience problems connecting to the chat server after this maintenance. Nostrodomos apologises for this, even though Nostrodomos shouldn't, because it is not the fault of Nostrodomos! This it is not a problem on Tikiopolis's end of the Internet, and it is not anything Nostrodomos can do to fix. These are DNS problems, and it's your ISP's DNS servers casuing the problem. If you cannot connect, visit DNS Troubleshooting for help to narrow down the problem.
Any problem typically goes away within 3 days.

[24 Jul 2005] Although Nostrodomos is all-knowing and all-mighty, Nostrodomos is also all-forgetting. Case and point: Coconut Girl had signed up the Tikiopolis web site to participate in a Comic Chat web ring. She told Nostrodomos to perform the necessary geek sorcery to the web site. to participate.
Nostrodomos promptly forgot. Apparently, Nostrodomos used his third superpower, the ability to forget anything.
The owner of the web ring, after about half a year, indicated that Tikiopolis wasn't participating quite right, and so Nostrodomos added the navigation bar for the Comic Chat Zone web ring. You can see it at the bottom of this page.
Really. Go look.
Now.

[17 Jul 2005] Some people could not connect to the chat server this morning. How unfortunate! There are no known problems with the chat server, in fact, 22 people have connected today. If you can not connect, you may have what is known as a "client" problem, the problem is with your computer or your Internet Service Provider (ISP).
Try rebooting. But check for Windows Updates first. You might as well if you must reboot anyway.
If that does not help, squack at your ISP for being stupid. Click Here for details how to troubleshoot this problem, and information about what causes it.

[14 Jul 2005] Although this is short notice, and no one reads this, Nostrodomos thought Nostrodomos should notify all find friends of Tikiopolis of the following development: The Tikiopolis website will be unavailable early Friday morning, 15-Jul-2005, from around 0700 PDT to 0900 PDT.
This outage attempts to improve the quality of the connection to the website. Peace, and Tiki on!

[4 Jun 2005] So what, it's been a while since Nostrodomos has written a NewsFlash, but that's OK since no one reads them.
Two new chat channels are part of the Tikiopolis Clan today:
#Chat_Haven_Cafe (owned by NightAngel) #Maddy's_World (owned by Maddy)
A few weeks ago, a third channel was added:
#DaBackWoods, owned by ^Hobbits^
Connect to the char server today to read descriptions, and chat it up, dammit!

[19 Mar 2005] The chat server has been open for less than a week, and we've already made an upgrade. Yes, it's true, we actually upgrade our server when there is a patch or new features.
Speaking of new features, Nostrodomos hired one of the developers of this chat server to customize the server. This customization just happened to coincide with a new release of the server. Ok, enough technobabble...this is what the new server does, and it's simple, and it's for text chatters using IRC clients other than Microsoft Comic Chat (such as mIRC or pIRCh): This new filters out all the ugly comic codes. If you are one of these text chatters, you know what that means. This also enables Comic Chat users in #Newcomer2Trivia to play without disabling "Microsoft Chat specific information". A MS Chat user would know what this means.
Of course, this features isn't huge news for those running IRCx servers. This feature was always built in. IRCx servers, however, are notoriously insecure, unlike the server running at Tikiopolis.

[17 Mar 2005] Due to over one million requests (give or take a million or so), Nostrodomos has created a big old banner image so people can link to Tikiopolis from their own web sites. Nostrodomos also introduces the Cross-Link Guarantee. All the legal mumbo-jumbo aside, it states: if you link to us, we'll link to you. Interested in Linking to Tikiopolis? Well, then you should have clicked that hyperlink you just read.
-
[17 Mar 2005 in the wee hours of the morning] Nostrodomos re-designed the front page of Tikiopolis.com because those who used it were, um, giving feedback, ahem, about how small the Site Map link was and how it was buried, and how utterly difficult it was to navigate the website. Nostrodomos is on Earth to humbly serve you mortals, so he re-designed the website hoping that it pleases you.
-
[16 Mar 2005] Added this nifty little IFRAME for the NewsFlashes. Nostrodomos has so much to share, this page was getting a bit long, so now the Newsies can scroll through the NewsFlashes. Um, that's assuming any one actually reads these things...
-
[16 Mar 2005] Because UNiBABE asked, Nostrodomos created a download location for Microsoft (Comic) Chat. One can find it by looking at the Site Map. Nostrodomos refers to it as a "mirror" because installation binaries for all 24 languages are hosted at Tikiopolis. This is a good thing because one day Microsoft may no longer serve out these files. Of course, the lawyers wonder if what Nostrodomos has done is actually legal, but they suppose they'll find out once Nostrodomos gets sued by the Evil Empire. Nostrodomos considers this more of an opportunity, than a guillotine hovering above him about to drop, because if the Evil Empire does contact him, Nostrodomos will try and convince Microsoft to donate the code for Comic Chat to the Open-Source community. Sure, we all think Nostrodomos is on a pipe-induced dream, but it doesn't hurt to ask...

[14 March 2005] Nostrodomos admits Nostrodomos has been neglecting some of the services offered by Tikiopolis. You see, Nostrodomos has been so busy with the chat server and the web site supporting the chat server, and helping out anyone who needs help with getting into Tikiopolis, Nostrodomos hasn't had time to finish setting up the NewsGroups or the ListServ. For those waiting, Nostrodomos apologizes for the inconvenience, but doesn't exactly wallow in a pool of sorry and guilt. Nostrodomos is too busy for that, besides, Nostrodomos is a tikigawd, after all.
Nostrodomos was helping out keeley and chele today, and they pointed out the error in his ways about the WebChat, which was malfunctioning under Windows XP. For those who like technobabble, keep reading! After upgrading the WebChat to a new version of the Java applet, Nostrodomos did not realize the distinction the applet needed to make between Java Virtual Machines offered by Microsoft and Sun. According to the forums, Nostrodomos has deprived the WebChat of "half its brains" and under certain situations, such as Windows XP where the user had not installed the Sun VM, the graphic user interface of the Java Applet would not load. Nostrodomos offers his praise to those fine ladies for pointing out such an egregious error. THE WEBCHAT HAS BEEN FIXED.
-
[13 March 2005 @ a more reasonable hour] The first day of the new chat server has been fairly successful, much better than the grim and glum Nostrodomos would have expected. As more people keep asking "What's the URL for this?" and "What's the URL for that?" and "What was the URL again?!!" --- Nostrodomos thought he'd just create a Web Site Map of Tikiopolis and stop answering the same questions over and over and over and over and over again. The SiteMap is in its infancy, and will eventually be as old as you are :P as Nostrodomos updates the SiteMap as he discovers things he has forgotten. Nostrodomos has added three items whilst writing this News Flash. If one cannot remember the URL of the Site Map, just look down at the bottom of any Tikiopilis web page, buried beneath the standard copyright and legal threats, is a link to the Site Map.
-
[13 March 2005 @ 0323] The Chat Server of Tikiopolis.com is officially open for business, so join #Newbies and give Nostrodomos the business. He's just asking for it. He dares you, nay, he double dog dares you to connect to CHAT.TIKIOPOLIS.COM.
-
[11 March 2005] Due to technical difficulties, Nostrodomos has delayed the opening of the IRC server, until he has locked down its security tighter that a corsette. Look back here for the announcement when it's ready and open for business.
-
[5 March 2005] Responding to popular demand, Nostrodomos and CoconutGirl (aka NightShade) officially announce that Tikiopolis will indeed host a fully-functional IRC server. Read the Flyer for all the details.
-
[5 March 2005] Nostrodomos finally figured out what to do with the database server, and so the websites are finally coming back together, which is good, and you'd understand why, if you had read the NewsFlash above!
-
[2 March 2005] The royal Tikiopolis web server puked, so Nostrodomos is in the process of rebuilding it, which required a new server, which requires Nostrdomos to go through nearly everything to verify it operates as expected. So if something doesn't work, keep a lid on it. The TikiGawd might be a little sensitive about it for a while.
